Yes! Time in my art room.

This past weekend I was able to get in my art room. It's a mess so I decided to clean it up BUT I made a few cards along the way.  This is what happened. I have all these scraps of paper on my table that I feel can be used some day.  As I was deciding what to keep an idea for a card came to mind so I would make it.  Here is the first card.

The only thing I did was cut up the paper. I have a large roll of paper I use on my table when I using inks, sprays and paints to catch any spills.  After a while the paper is full of color and I just can't throw it out so it's saved for future projects.

For My Daughter

Today my daughter is taking a test for her intermediate license as a Sign Language Interpreter. I mailed this to her and she received over the weekend.

She's been studying so hard for this exam.
I can't believe the day is finally here.
It seemed so far away.

BREAK A LEG KAYLYN!
Love you!

Smile, Smile, Smile

Just a quick tag to show you. I was invited to a scrap night but didn't have anything to scrap. I decided to bring my tags and see how many I can get done.  From 7PM to 1AM this is the only one I finished. I did too much talking and enjoyed what everyone else was doing that the time flew by.

Arting and The Tax Man

It's tax season and I will be very busy at work. Lots of tax returns to get out the door before April 15th.  Although last year I didn't work a lot of overtime, every year is different so I'm not sure how many times I will be able to post. I try to get in there just to destress from the day but it's hard to do somedays. Just letting you know that if you don't see new posts I haven't walked away, just haven't found the time to get in my art room.

This mixed media page I found to be perfect for tax season. I'm going to link this do Julie's Art Journal Every Day. You should see all the amazing pages plus Julie has a video showing how she designed a scrapbook page with a newspaper. Very cool.

Its full of distress inks and paint, scraps of paper, string and a photo.  Recently I'm having lots of fun with all my alpha stamps for stamping quotes.

This weekend I'm cleaning out my closet in my art room. Oh my I didn't realize how much stuff I had in there.  Lots to throw away. I started using the closet as a hiding place for stuff when I didn't know what to do with it.   Now I can't find something and I know it's in the closet. There is no other choice but to clean it.  I did find some cool stuff for some collages.  What's in your closet?

Thanks so much for stopping by!
Have a great weekend.

Expect Great Things

I am finding that I have my hands into so many different ways of creating art that I can't pinpoint just two.  Lately I see to gravitate toward mixed media on canvas. I have four in different stages right now. This one was something completely different when I started it.  I love the layers of letters in the background.  Once I layed the letters and put a layer of tissue paper on top, I painted it with Gesso then I had to walk away. My mojo just left.  This sat for weeks until I picked it up again and found pieces of this and that on my table. With all those scraps I ended up creating a small collage on it.

Here is a close up of the collage and the layers.

I added a layer of gel medium on top and I thought it was dry and I flipped it over to use a brayer on the other side to make sure everything was down on the canvas. Well, it stuck and when I pulled it up it made lovely holes in some of the college. I loved it.  It was just what it needed, in my opinion.

Winter Storm Nemo 2013

No art to show you today. I thought I would share my pictures of Winter Storm Nemo. It's amazing what Mother Nature can do!

Here are pictures in date and time order. If you click on them it should enlarge them.

This is what it looked like outside my front door Friday around 12:45 pm. It has been sleeting since 6:30 am and very slippery and it just started to snow and cover the ice.

The blizzard winds started around 8:30pm here and it was snowing so hard.  When it's windy I can't sleep because of a large willow tree in my backyard. Every time I hear a creak I would wake up. So I thought I would take pictures while I was up.

This was taking Saturday morning at 1:40 am.

Around 6:30 am Saturday morning my husband wants to start shoveling. We opened the door and saw this.

We have three steps down to the ground but all you can see it snow all the way to the neighbor's house across the street.

Here is what it looked like to the left of our house.

In the front of our house.

This is a picture of my husband. Keep in mind he is 6' 2" and he said he's still standing on a layer of ice and snow. You still can't see the last step.

The houses you see behind my husband are all owned by the same family for some reason they decided and their car cut stuck.  They left it and walked back home.

This is looking to the right of our house.

Its about 11:30 am Saturday morning. My husband is still shoveling. You can see all the way up the sheet is nothing but snow.  Who knows when we will get plowed out.

Here is another shot to the right of our house looking at our street.

The family owns the three house across the street used their snow blower to create a path to the houses.  Eventually they used the snow blower to create a path the their car and backed it up into the driveway.

I hope all those affected by this storm are all safe and toasty warm!

Have a great day!

Dreaming of bright blue summer skies....

Hi everyone! Here in Connecticut we are experiencing Winter Storm Nemo. So far we have about 5 inches of snow but the worst is yet to come later tonight when blizzard conditions start. I thought I would post a page from my mixed media journal because I may not have electricity tomorrow.

I love to be warm so that was the inspiration for the page.

I used lots of distress inks and stains for the background along with stencils and stamps. To have the warms of the sun right now would be wonderful!

I hope all those affected by Winter Storm Nemo are home safe and toasty warm!

Out of my Comfort Zone - Lots of color

I am really trying to use more colors in my art. It's hard. I tend to use blues and greens or orange, yellow, and reds.  My favorite color is purple but I hardly use it in art work. Here is a 4" x 12" stretched canvas that I used lots of color.  I guess you can say it's an abstract. I almost took Gesso to it but then I added some stencils and I liked it better.

I'm not totally sure I like it. It's hanging in my hallway to my kitchen right now. I have to take time to look at it before I decide to either wipe it clean or add more to it.  What do you think?

Love Watercolors

I have been playing with watercolors and decided to try them through stencils. I love all the soft colors.  I used watercolor paints and Neocolor Artist Crayons.

Does anyone have any suggestions for an online watercolor class? I would love to learn to do more. I will keep playing but you can never learn to much about it.

ONE precious life

Roaming around my favorite art stores I saw so many new products that I wanted to try but I stopped myself from buying anything. Those who know me will be shocked I didn't buy anything.  I decided this year I'm going to work with what I have and look at all the new products coming out this year and really decided which ones I'm going to use and then buy from there. How many of you have art supplies or scrapbooking supplies that you haven't touched yet?

This journal page I decided to use great stand by supplies of distress inks and stains; Dylusions stencil, photo and alpha stamps for the quote.

decide to make every single day
the very best day of your
ONE
precious life

Going back and using the supplies I really love really made me realize I need to be more selective with what I want to buy.

Also, I had a few emails me asking where my photos come from. I would say 95% of the time they are mine. The other 5% are photos I have found or stumbled across on sites offering them for free. This particular photo is on a sheet of photos from ARTChix Studio.  I have so many photos all cut and ready to use. I just have to figure out a better way to keep them so I know what I have. Sometimes I can't find what I want and end up reprinting it again then once the subject is done I find it. Any suggestions?

Believe You Are Enough

Silhouettes are very popular right now. There are many new products coming this year that look like fun to play with especially all the stencils/masks out this year.  I decided to pick up old magazines from my office and pull out pictures of models in different poses to use for silhouettes. This one is a model wearing a beautiful wedding gown. I used some stencil material and traced her out and used an xacto knife and cut her out. I can use her in many ways not just as a silhouette so you will be seeing more of her.

I accidentally spilled white ink all over my table and this canvas. It's amazing what drying time and more paint can do to fix a mistake. Ohh I forgot there are no mistakes in art!
