Christmas Tags - A pink Christmas

I think I'm in a pink mood. I've been making a few Christmas tags and cards and they all seem to have the same thing in common, Pink.  Here is a very layered tag that I haven't decided what to do with next but it's pretty so I thought I would show you.

Three Silver Balls Challenge

My sister, Brenda, and my niece, Aerin, and I are doing a challenge together.  We each were given three silver balls. Theses are fill ins for flower arranges, jars or whatever.

They look like this:

They are about two inches in diameter.  We have to decorate each one the same, keep on for ourselves and mail the others to the other two in the challenge. They have to be received by Christmas. I will post a picture of all of them when I receive them.

The Funkie Junkie - 12 Tags of Christmas

Linda's third tag for The Funkie Junkie's 12 Tags of Christmas is a beautiful tag. At first I loved the frosted blue color and the crackle on the snowman but really pulled me in is the grid material in the background.  I decided to use the grid for the whole background.

I also painted the tag in purple with white pearl paint on top to give it that frosted look.  Then I pulled out my jar of snow and added that to the tag. In the close up below you will see I used glass bead texture cream in the background for added sparkle.

Have you joined the challenge yet!
Go over and take a look at everyone's tags!

The Funkie Junkie - 12 Tags of Christmas #2

I was able to finish a couple of tags for Linda's 12 Tags of Christmas.  Her second tag inspired me to try Tim Holtz riveted patchwork technique. Its one of those techniques that I didn't think I can use but once I tried it on this tag it gave me more ideas for future projects.

I decided to add string art to the gears, snow to the branches and pink for a pop of color. I die cut from a manila tag a small easel (Tim Holtz and bought from Linda's store) and attached it to the back so it can stand on its own.

Here is a close up of the gears.

Bad things can strengthen you

Today I have a 8x10 mixed media board to show you. I used lots of acrylic paints, paper, stamps, washi tape and modeling paste. I absolutely love it. I think so far this is my favorite.

When something bad happens you have three choices:
You can either let it define you.
Let it destroy you or you can let it strengthen you.

As you can see there are lots of layers. It's one of those pieces that just came together but it took many days to finish.  I find that if I work on layers it's better to walk away and come back to it.  I also see things differently and it always changes my ideas.  This one was going to be many different things but I found the die cut window and my creatively took over.

Here it is in a frame.

Please leave me a comment on what you think about it. I would love to hear what you have to say.

PS Norma from Little Honey Bee Studios gave me a blog award. I will be posting my answers to her questions soon.

Seth Apter, The Altered Page

In march Seth Apter, The Altered Page, had an open call to everyone for 4x4 mixed media art. His project would be online and there would be no jury. All submissions if they met the requirements would be accepted. Yes, I joined in. You can read all about HERE.

You had to answer one or all three questions:

1. The Artistic Ingredient: If your artwork could talk, what would it say?
2. Passion in Action: Who has had the most impact on your creative life?
3. Secrets Revealed: What is one thing you have never shared with the creative community?

I only answered number 2. My mother has a huge impact on my creative life. You can read all about and see what I created HERE.

The exciting part is that my art work along with others will be shows on his blog on Sunday, November 18th. Please take a look at all the outstanding art and don't forget to look at Seth's art too!

What do you do will all your art tags?

I know long time no see! I have been so busy with work that I haven't had much time in my art room. I actually had a art day on Sunday and worked on 5 things at once and nothing is finished yet.

Today I thought I would show you what I made for my daughter for her birthday. She loves my tags but wanted something simple to display them on. Stampin Up had these clip boards with three clips. They don't make them any more but I bought quite a few.

This is what it looked like before I got my hands on it.

It's really nice heavy duty chip board and it doesn't buckle when you paint it or spray it. I decided that it had to be just one color so the tags would stand out. I decided to paint it black but it needed something else.

I first applied heavy gel medium through a stencil then let it dry. I painted it black but wiped some of the paint off to reveal the chipboard underneath then I added some gold acrylic ink  Here is a close up.

I gave my daughter almost all of my tags so this was a perfect way for her to display the tags but also switch them out during the year.  Here are some examples of Halloween, Christmas and an every day display.

She loved it and her wish has come true she has all my tags. Now it's time to make more!

Thanks so much for stopping by!
I hope to have more to share soon!

The Funkie Junkie 12 Tags of Christmas

Linda has a tag challenge on her blog, The Funkie Junkie, called 12 Tags of Christmas. I joined in on it last year and had so much fun. To play click on her blog link and it will bring you to the first tag and all the deets on how to play. This year I am so far behind I hope I can catch up before it's over.

What inspired me about Linda's first tag was that it was all one color, brass/gold and I loved the stars. I thought I would challenge myself to use only one color, silver. I love this tag and I see more in my future.

I first painted the tag in silver paint and used a pin and made a swirly design in the background and let it dry then I added glass bead texture paste.  I love this picture of Santa and it's in black and white so it was perfect.

Here is a close up of the glass bead texture paste and you can see the swirls in the paint.

Her second Christmas tag is wonderful you should go take a look and its perfect since I'm obsessed with silver right now!

Head on over to The Funkie Junkie to join in on Linda's 12 Tags of Christmas! You will love it!

Unfinished!

I haven't had much time in my art room. I try to make any kind of art every day. It keeps me sane. We are cleaning out our basement and I didn't realize how much we have accumulated. It's taking forever to finish.

Since I really didn't have much to post I decided to show you a tag I started. Its not finished yet. I just finished or almost finished the background. I have a few idea on how I'm going to embellish it.

Lots of layers of paint, paper and modeling paste.

Here is a close up.

I love all the layers and texture on it.
