My First Very Textured Piece

Hi Everyone.
I'm trying my hand at very textured pieces of art.

Not sure I like this one.
You may have seen his one on Google+ but I haven't posted it here yet.

I like to post things I've done whether I like them or not.
This one is 10x10 cradled wood.
I used modeling paste and acrylic inks by Liquitex.

It was fun but I think I want to do more layers of colors.
Maybe sand some surfaces...experiment.

Some close ups.
Love the colors but need more layers of colors.

I used a few number stickers.

What do you think?
Something you would like to try?

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Dream A Little Dream

I can't believe it's Friday already.
Time sure flies when you're having fun.

Today I have tag for you.
The background was created with Gelatos, TCWStencil #479s Random Stars, and Pan Pastels

This tag has been sitting on my table for weeks now.
Finally inspiration strikes with a image.

This image of a mother and child.
I love it.
I don't know where I got it from.
I added scraps of paper to the background, found the star, added glitter, stamped the tag and added color. Finished.

Here is another view of the star.
I didn't realize until now that I used a star brad to hold the star and tag.

Here is the image.
I scanned it in so I can use it again.

A Fun Collaborative Piece

Hi Everyone!
My god-daughter, Cassidy, was here and we had a few hours to hang out and create some art.
Once we stopped talking, we decided to do a collaborative piece.
We have so much fun with it.
This was the first time we kept to the same colors and I didn't paint the whole thing black.

We created it on a piece of 11x14 mixed media paper.
She took it home to have framed to hang on her new bedroom wall.

A Fish Pond: Koi

Hi Everyone!
I've been playing in my art journals lately.
I like to use them for idea and just play time.

I started with this journal page.
The background was created with DecoArt's Misters.

This is another page I created with DecoArt's Misters and TCW Stencil #242 Damask.

I decided it was a great color for fish.
I took my TCW Stencil #499s Koi Pond and traced the fish onto the paper.
I decided not to do anything more to them but just cut them out of the paper.

Once I was all done cutting, I added them to the journal page.

Here is a close up of  the background.

Fish

Very different for me lately.
I usually have lots of layers in the background.

It's time for another SOCC5 challenge.

2 Pinks + 1 Orange

For this challenge I used Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Gelatos in these colors:

Plus modeling paste and my hand cut star stencil.
To create this art journal page.

I love this color combination and have been using frequently.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Art Journal Page to Canvas

I love this art journal page I created.
BUT I would love it as a canvas.
So I tried it.

 How did I do?

C

I am so happy with the results.
I used all the same colors and stencils as the journal page.

Here is how I created it and what I used.

10"x10" Stretched Canvas
Stencil: TCW505s Mini Pebble Art
Stencil: TCW549s Mini Oblong
Faber-Castell Mix and Match Color Collection Gelatos - Brights
Faber-Castell Stampers Big Brush Pen - Black
Baby Wipes
Deli Paper
Gesso

My first step was to add gesso to the canvas and dry it with a heat gun.
I like to do this because I don't have any patience waiting for it to dry but also if its over heated glorious texture shows up.

I started to add color to the sides of the canvas first.
Layer pinks, oranges and yellows.

On the front of the canvas I started with shades of the pink Gelatos.
I did add a little spray of water to help blend the colors.

I continued to add more colors.
Using the Mini Oblong stencil and baby wipes I took off some of the color leaving the stencil design.

Once I competed that I added color back in the stencil design using a different color.
If a block was in an orange section, I added pink, etc.

I sprayed the canvas with water and put deli paper on top.
I love to use it to lift off some of the color.

Here is what it looks like after the lift of the deli paper.

This step I used a circle stencil (made by me) and a Black Pitt Brush Pen to add circles to the canvas.
Before it dried I sprayed the circles with water and let it sit to dry.

The black Pitt Pen starts to spread a little on the canvas.

Using a baby wipe again, I used the Mini Pebble Art stencil to lift off the Gelatos to make my pattern on the canvas.

Here is a close up.

Here is my finished piece.
I just love the bright colors.
I sealed with the Krylon Acrylic Sealer Spray on it.
Gelatos will run when it's wet so I took my time and sprayed a light coating and waited for it to dry and then added another coat.

This is only 10x10.
Wonder what it would look like even larger.

Summer of Color 5 - Color by Number: Week One

Hi everyone!!!
I'm very excited for Summer of Color 5!
I love a color challenge and this one is so much fun.

Here is the link so you can read all about it.

For week one we had to use two colors of blue and one of green.
Easy peasy.

I used the following:
DecoArt Media Mister in Primary Cyan
Liquitex Soft Body Acrylic in Light Blue
Golden Fluid Acrylic in Phthalo Blue

I also used lots of water for the background and sprayed some clear glitter mist.
I completely forgot I had it and now completely gone. Modeling paste and a TCW Stencil called Sea Creatures (TCW496) and Kelp Forest (TCW498)

Here is a close up of the modeling paste.

The sea horse. Do you see the little bubbles?
I'm in love. Perfect little glass bubbles.
You have to get some.

Here are more bubbles!!!

My finished page.

I hope you join in on the fun!

Life Is Good, when you can sleep: A Mini Art Journal Page

This mini art journal page was created because I couldn't sleep.
You know those nights were you fall asleep right away but then you are up every hour.
By the time 2:30 am rolled around I figured I needed to get up and do something.
So into my art room and pulled out my mini mixed media journal.
I started by using crackle paste through a stencil called Persian Gate TCW472 and when it dried I added some purple watercolor for the background.
I attached a small tag, butterfly, dried paint, and rub-on for words.

Here is a close up of the dried paint.
Every time I open the cap on the Liquitex Basics tubes I take off the dry paint.
I have a small bowl full of them.

The mini page only took about 30 minutes.
It was just what I needed to fall asleep.
