Lots of Creativity!

Salutations!  Welcome back.  Well this was another weekend where so many ideas were floating in my head I actually had to start writing them down!  As you can see from previous entries I've been into mixed media quite a bit and when I walked into an art supply store and their canvases were all 40% off I filled my basket with many different sizes.  So with a large cup of tea in my hands I headed to my art room to create some art.

This canvas I want to show you is 3"x5" artist canvas panel. I couldn't decide what I wanted to do but thought it would be perfect if I stamped a backgroud. I chose Heartfelt Creations Daisy Patch background stamp and colored the flowers in with Prismacolor markers (lilac and violet), stickles (starry night), and with an aqua pen added lovely liliac.  To make the white flower I stamped Heartfelt Creations Daisy Patch flowers on white card stock and colored in with Sakura Gelly Roll Pen in clear star and added a brad in the middle. The sentiment is a stamp from Hero Arts. 

I love the way it came out. Everyone knows I love to make flowers so these stamps are perfect.  My next creation is a tag. I had so much fun making this one.  I used a Cuttlebug emobssing folder called Typeset and embossed a manilla tag.  I then used distress inks (marmalade, dusty concord, fired brick, broken china, frayed burlap and mustard seed) to color the tag.  I had a clear acrylic flower that I colored with alcohol inks (acqua, sailboat blue, wild plum, and pink sailboat) and attached a metal word stick from Tim Holtz Idea-ology and added them to the tag with string.  The flower I made from HFC Daisy Patch stamps and played with different ink sprays to color them.  The Tim Holtz Idea-ology Adage Tickets were shaded with distress inks and attached.

I love playing with inks especially distress inks. They are so much fun.  As I said before I love to make my own flowers. Prima flowers are gorgeous but sometimes I just want something different. This time I used alcohols inks (acqua, stream, pearl, silver) to add color to plastic.  Then I used black archival ink to stamp Outlines Rubber Stamps Flowers to the plastic and cut them out. To make them misshapen I used my heat gun and when they are hot its very easy to bend and shape the plastic.  I used brads and stickles to add a little sparkle.  The purple flower was stamped with Heartfelt Creations Daisy Patch flowers, cut out and I added a brad for extra sparkle.

A Very Productive Weekend!

Salutations! I had a very productive weekend in my art room.  It was one of those weekends where the creativity was flowing! 

Its Never Too Late to Find Out Who You Want to Be

Supplies:  5"x5" Stretched Canvas painted with a mix of honeycomb and ivory acrylic paint; Background paper is Alice quotes typed over and over and torn and glued to the canvas; warm white paint on top of quotes; Sentiment-Tim Holtz stamp set called Good Thoughts; Alice stamp from TJ Designs-Down the Rabbit Hole; the flowers were made from grunge paper colored with broken china, dustry concord, mustard with a button brad.

SPORTS!!!! ME???

Salutations!  A friend of ours has a small sports store in our local ice rink that rents skates and sells sports memorabilia.  He loves my art work and keeps asking me to make art so he can sell it in his store.  I've been thinking about it for a couple of months and decided to try. I'm not a sports person. I know nothing about it. It's just not my thing. I don't have to make my art sports themed but since thats what sells in the store I had to channel my sports creativity.  Boy, was it hard.  Like most of my ideas I had a weird dream about making these huge, no gigantic like the size of a building, art canvases with all this sports stuff.  When I woke up I realized I have small canvases that I can use to try to make my dream come true! (ha,ha,ha!)

I love quotes and words and use them in most of my art work. I had to figure out how to incorporate them on the canvas and decided to type up the definition of hockey and copy it over and over until it fit on an 8.5"x11" piece of paper.  Then I sprayed the paper with acrylic sealer because I didn't know how it would react to paper adhesive and acrylic paint.  I took the definition paper and torn it into different sized pieces and adhered them to the canvas with Perfect Paper Adhesive.  Mod Podge works amazing too but I was out of it at the time. Once dried I squeezed a small amount of aqua acrylic paint on the canvas and used a faux credit card (the ones you get in the mail when some company is offering you a credit card) and scraped the paint on the canvas.  That was so much fun. I cut a hockey stick background, hockey players and hockey helmets out of black paper from the Sports Mania Cricut Cartridge. I used the hocky stick background to stencil hockey sticks on parts of the canvases with red acrylic paint plus I used cranberry alcohol inks here and there on the canvases. The next step was to glue the players, helmets, and quotes and seal with two coats of Mod Podge.  I attached picture hangers on the back along with my name, email address and my blog address. My husband works in the store on the weekends so he took them in today.  I will let you know if they sell!

In the end I loved making them and have more ideas for more sports art. Although it took time to channel my sports creativity I loved the challenge.Well thats it for now. I will have much more to share with you tomorrow. Thanks so much for stopping by.

Salutations!  I love quotes and use them in much of my art work. Do you like to use quotes?  Sometimes they are hard to use but for me it's a great challenge.

Is it Spring Yet!

Salutations! I can't believe how much snow we have here. On January 27th we had another storm which added another 18 inches of snow.  I just have a few pictures to show you.

The first one is titled "What Car?"

My next picture is titled "After The Storm". Our driveway and walkways were all shoveled but still had to wait for the plows to come through the neightborhood.

Here is a shot of icicles on the house. I actually caught a drop falling off one!

Thats it for the snow! The tag I'm going to show you I made for a challenge on the Paper Wishes Message Board.  Challenge #2 was called Going Dotty.  Your project must have dots and show a new technique or one you haven't tried.  Well, I made this tag and when I was done it was missing something.  Thats when I remembered the technique of using Ranger's Glossy Accents on your project to make words and embellishments pop.  I decided to try it on the red dots on the tag and it added the right touch it was needing.
