A Bouquet for her Wedding

Hi Everyone! My sister got married a few weeks ago. For her shower I creating this 14 x 24 wood panel for her.

It took me one full weekend but a couple of hours each night after work to finish it. Although I used stencils for the flowers, I did not use the whole stencil design in one spot. I added flowers with paint and I also added flowers with TCW Light & Fluffy Modeling Paste. 

Each part of the design that I added with modeling paste, I had to wait for it to dry before adding more. That's why it took so long. TCW Light & Fluffy Modeling Paste dries fast if you put it in front of a fan. Don't use a heat gun unless you want the paste to look bubbled. 

TCW Light & Fluffy Modeling Paste is porous so when you add a little water and then add paint it's reactive. The paint will spread through the paste.  I think that's why it's my favorite. Its like magic!

I'm currently working on two more right now. Very different from each other and this one. I'm creating paintings for a Breast Cancer Fundraiser called Scraptoberfest.  Everyone buys as many tickets as they want for all the raffle prizes to get a chance to win something. It's an all day event, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.  I don't scrap but I bring stuff to make cards or work in an art journal.   100% of the proceeds go towards those who need wigs, prosthetics, rent, electricity, etc.

You Have To Show Up!

Hi Everyone!

When your muse takes a vacation what do you do?

 

I find I just have to show up in my art room and keep working.

Even if I'm just scribbling in my art journal, playing with mediums I just show up.

Eventually the creativity keeps flowing. I may find some of the things I created are not my best but I feel good that I showed up.

 

I showed up with inspiration from the picture I took of a woman's shirt.

 

 

I love strips in art but I've never tried it before. To start I used a napkin with stripes and flowers. I used gel medium and add it to the canvas. I just continued to add more flowers. I used stencil by The Crafters Workshop.

I'm not fond of the color combination but I showed up and kept working on it. I did learn that I love the stripes in the background and will use stripes more often. I love pink but I'm more fond of brighter pinks. I'm no in search for my favorite shade. 

 

 

My muse is always with me even though it seems like its gone forever.

I'm proud of myself for showing up. Sometimes I walk away but I find that just doesn't help.

Loving Florals

I love flowers and I'm drawn to floral paintings, any type and any style. Slowly I'm trying to paint them but I'm starting small.  I'm also trying to use brighter colors. Most of my paintings are dark because I love using black. Maybe it's my mood at the time (hmm doesn't sound good LOL).

This canvas was actually another painting I hated. Gesso to the rescue!!! I decided not to think just do something that looked floral and this is what happened.

Here is a close up of the flowers or berries. I dipped the end of a paint brush to create them. You can see the leaves are just a swoosh of green paint. Nothing difficult.

The funny thing is that I've been trying not to think and just create but having a hard time of it. I wish I can remember where my mind set was when I created this piece so I can do it again.  Working on abstracts I can just go with it but florals my mind and hands do not cooperate.

 

Maybe working towards abstract florals might help. I find I get frustrated practicing in my art journal that I stop altogether. I never seem to keep the focus going. Is there something you are dying to learn to paint but it never seems to work out?  Does your frustration stop you?

Traveling with Art Supplies

Hi Everyone!

When I go on vacation I always carry art supplies with me.

This trip I kept to watercolors knowing that paint and other supplies would be available.

 

You can see what my bag looks like and all The Crafter's Workshop stencils I carried HERE.

 

Today I'm going to show all the unfinished pages I worked on.

 

These pages are for coloring.

Although it has given me an idea for a canvas.

 

I've had these Zebras for a while now.

I cut them from reams of paper.

The Overlapping Stripes stencil is perfect for this page.

Flowers in my art journal

Hello.

Today I have a couple of pages from my art journal to show you.

I worked on both pages at the same time.

When something was drying on the left, I worked on the right.

I saw a photograph of flowers in a field and trying from memory to recreate it.

Not sure if I was completely successful but I love this page.

This flower was created because I spilled paint on the page.

I used an old credit card to spread the paint.

Ugly Canvas BUT not sure I saved it either!

Well, I think it's ugly.

I'm not a blue person.

I was using spray paint and by accident this painting was sprayed.

It's not a happy painting.

Black gesso to the rescue!

Maybe a little white paint.

Nope so not working.

I have no ideal what I'm doing.

So I took the new Triangle Sunburst stencil plus some heavy body acrylics

and painted the stencil design on

to look like flowers

I used the Herbarium stencil to add some leaves plus I decided to add more flowers.

I'm still trying to decided if I like it or not.

Is it still ugly?

Still not sure I like.

I originally wasn't going to share it.

But I like to share my good, bad and ugly projects.

Creating Dual Color Flowers for a Card with TCW Stencils

Well, I'm not fond of the card but it's the technique I love.

I used the Mini Impression Stencil to create the flowers.

I know you're saying, I don't see flowers.
Oh but you will!
 

 

On this card I used DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics and American Multi-Surface Satin paint in these colors.

I put both shades of each color on my craft mat and dabbed it on and off with a cosmetic sponge.

You don't want to fill the sponge with too much paint or it will go under the stencil, unless you like that look.

Below you can see the sponge has two colors on it.

 

Put the stencil on the paper and dab the sponge in a circular motion.

As you can see below I had the darker color on the inside and the lighter on the outside.

Looking at the stencil design it doesn't look like a flower but repeating this process and turning the stencil design around you achieve the look of a flower.

Here is the purple flower finished.

 

 

This next stencil design reminds me of a rose.

I repeated the same process above.

This was the first layer of paint.

 

 

Look roses!

 

For the vase I used deli paper and some of the other designs from this stencil.

 

 

It's not my usual style.

Something on my list to try.

I may try it again but for now I can cross it off my list.

Flower Power!

Hello!

When I traveled to +JackieP Neal 's for an art retreat (read about HERE) I took time to wonder around her property taking pictures of many things. 

My favorite are her flowers.

Most of my pictures are macro/close up shots. 

I love all the details, texture and colors of the flowers.

All my pictures here were taken with my Canon SX710HS.

This wonderful posed for me for these shots.

Love this shot.

Even buds are beautiful.

Look at all the little hairs and texture on these buds.

This is a fun shot I took on Jackie's vintage table.
