TCW Gel Medium Gloss - When it Dries You Can See Right Through IT!

Hi Everyone.
Today I have a small Feather Abstract to show you. It's 5"x7" and I even have a few step out pictures.  I'm creating a Semi-Transparent Journal and this is a piece of that plastic I'm using.

I started out by using a brayer and adding paint to the background.  While the paint was wet I put a stencil on top and wiped away the paint. Sorry I don't remember which stencil I used. It was from The Crafters Workshop.

The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with stencils and mediums to create this project.

Then I added a stamp to the background with Archival Ink. The stamp is an old unmounted stamp and I do not know where it came from.

 

 

Here is where the fun happens. I added the feathers from TCW389 Fancy Feathers with TCW Gel Medium Gloss.  As you can see its white while its wet.

 

 

 BUT when it dries it's crystal clear.  I added some titanium white Golden High Flow Acrylic around the leaves.

 

 

 

Here is the finished piece.  I'm in love and will be making more of these.

Yupo + India Inks + High Flow Acrylics + Stencils = Purple 1

Hi Everyone! Just sharing my last abstract. This one I call Purple 1. It's created on Yupo with India Inks, High Flow Acrylics and Stencils.  I do not remember which stencils. They were from The Crafters Workshop but that's all I know. When I create Abstracts I only use a very small portion of the stencil design. I also don't take pictures along the way. I'm usually so into a zone that I don't remember how I finished it.

It is now all framed and ready to hang!

Stages of My Abstract Paiting.

Today I'm going to show you a few stages of one of my Abstract paintings. I'm finding taking pictures of a few stages helps me learn what I like and don't like. The last picture it states it might be done. Its signed and waiting to be varnished.

Here is the first stage I took a picture of.  I was just playing creating weird flowers. This is on 11x14 Strathmore Mixed Media Paper.

I didn't like it so I decided to add a wash of black to the painting plus more mark making.

Remember there were more steps in between all these pictures.  I decided to add some gel medium for texture, more blue and green paints, and then spray water all over it and just let it dry.  I love to add water to paints and watch the paint move around. You should try it!

As you can see I started adding more shades of blues and green, stencils, mark marking but I still didn't like it.

When it dried I used a brayer and added white, yellow, green and a little blue paint. Using the dropper from an acrylic ink bottle I added my scribble to it. Again I sprayed it with a little water and let it dry.

Once it dried, I let it sit a couple of days but decided I loved it. It is now waiting in line for varnish and it will be put in a frame.

on my mind, out of my mind, oh no my mind!

Hi Everyone. Welcome to another "out of my mind" post. I'm going to use these posts to babble and show you creations I've started but not finished. 

So this is usually the way my art room looks like. I call it sort of clean. My room is never really clean and there is usually stuff piled somewhere.  It works for me.

Lately I've been purging things that I just don't use or don't bring me joy. While sitting at my table trying to get my mojo working, I saw that my art room closet door was open.  No, no don't open it! I did open it. I can't even put anything in there it's so full.

I decided that I needed to clean it out and figure out what is in there. In the next pic you'll see I can't work anywhere!

I'm not even done pulling everything out! I now wish I never opened that door! The plastic bin is full of art work is pieces I started but never finished. I decided to take at least 10 pieces out at a time and decide whether I'm finishing them, start from a blank slate and gesso them, or if it's a canvas I don't want, I'll cut off the canvas to use on another project. 

Guess what? I LOVE CUTTING OFF THE CANVAS. This idea I got from Jackie P. Neal, my wonderfully talented art sister. She scans in her art work and uses it in other projects. Why not the actually canvas?????

After this closet I'm going to clean out this drawer of scraps. Don't get me wrong I love scraps but I want to use them for collage.  I'm going to start to pull them out and creating starter collages that I can then put on a canvas.

Finally I'll leave you with two pieces I made. First one is a bouquet I made for my god-daughter for her recital; her last recital.

Last, this is an abstract piece I made on watercolor paper and gelatos. Gelatos are not my favorite tool to use but I keep trying to love them.

Think Spring - A New Abstract

Think Spring came about because the painting underneath it was UGLY!  GESSO to the rescue!  This time I applied all the paint with a Princeton Catalyst Mini Blade #5.  I only have #1 and #5 and I am so buying the rest of the set.

While the gesso was still wet I applied different shades of blue, green and yellow paint to the canvas.

 

 

I don't remember my thought process but I decided to add white gesso towards the top. I do turn my paints around and add more paint here and there to see different angles of the painting.  I so wish I took a close up of the texture. It's so cool looking.

 

 

As you can see I added more white gesso and green. It almost covers up the blue but I let it peek out a little.

I found a close up!!!! It still doesn't do it any justice.

 

 

When it dried I added a squiggle of dark blue and white paint to finish it.

Cheating with Stencils: Abstract 5x7 Shapes

Received an email giving their opinions on my art that using stencils was cheating. I should learn how to create art without them. They were also of the opinion that abstract art is not art. I don't think using stencils is cheating and Abstract art is my favorite. I use stencils for mark making, texture, and the designs add to my paintings not the opposite and yes, I do create art without them too.

Today's Abstract painting is created entirely with stencils. It's one of my favorite paintings and it was created on a 5x7 wood panel that was actually on sale in my local arts and craft store. I love creating on wood but it can be expensive. Stores that carry those wooden signs with quotes go on sale and I find some for $2 to $4 in all sizes and I just paint right over them.

I started this by painting over the sign with black gesso by The Crafters Workshop (TCW). To add texture I used TCW Matte Gel Medium and added tissue paper and some painted deli paper to the wood panel.  I also added a few pieces of paper towel.

I let it dry over night and then I added more yellow, orange, and black acrylic paint.

Now I could paint my own shapes on this or use some other items to make some marks but I used the Shapes stencil (TCW762) by The Crafters Workshop.  I started by adding the shapes in the same yellow and orange paint and then started using black.

To finish it I added my scribble. I love to add scribbles or sometimes it's hard to read word but this one is just a scribble.

I use stencils for 75% of my art and I don't think it's cheating using them. There are many artists who do use them. I love hearing others' opinions about art whether its mine or others. This email wasn't very friendly towards the end but everyone has their opinions. I have mine too.

A New Mixed Media Painting with Monoprints

Hello!

Do you have routine when you create a painting? I paint 98% of all my substrates with black gesso. I like the peak through of the black (if it shows) and the way it makes the colors pop.

 

 

95% of the time I cover the black with a color and scribble in the wet paint.

Love to scribble!

 



 

Then I start adding more texture. These lines were created with black paint on cardboard.

After that its whatever my muse wants me to do. This time I chose from my stash some leftover monoprints to add to it. I usually keep to a favorite color combination.

Of course, I had to add more scribbles and it's done!

JEALOUSY - A Painting on Yupo

Hi. I as in my art room this weekend and loving every minute. My back is finally starting to heal and I can play a lot longer.

Today I took a painting on Yupo that didn't work out and painted over it with black Gesso by The Crafter's Workshop. Slowly started adding paint with a brayer. Green seemed to be the dominant color and the word Jealousy came to me as the title.

 

You can see that I used the Daisy Chain stencil on the left hand side. Just the center of the stencil. I love using just a portion of a stencil in my art. Its very rare I use the whole stencil.

Love it when it just happens.....

I didn't even plan or think about.

I just used what paints I had on my table.

I love this one.

You can see I used the Oblong stencil from The Crafter's Workshop.

 

 

 

 

I created this on mixed media paper.

Since I didn't know what I was going to do, I didn't want to use a canvas or wood board. Now I wish I did.

 

Also, as I was cleaning up my table even the deli paper underneath everything I worked on this weekend looks pretty cool.

12x12 Canvas: Squared

Hello.

I love Abstract and I've been creating quite a few mixed media Abstracts.  Here is one called Squared. It is very dark with splashes of color.

As you can see I used crackle paste at the bottom and the paints seeped into all the cracks.

The Crafter's Workshop provided me with stencils to create this project.

I used TCW561, Square Scrolls to compete this canvas.
