Yupo + India Inks + High Flow Acrylics + Stencils = Purple 1

Hi Everyone! Just sharing my last abstract. This one I call Purple 1. It's created on Yupo with India Inks, High Flow Acrylics and Stencils.  I do not remember which stencils. They were from The Crafters Workshop but that's all I know. When I create Abstracts I only use a very small portion of the stencil design. I also don't take pictures along the way. I'm usually so into a zone that I don't remember how I finished it.

It is now all framed and ready to hang!

BEAUTY, WONDER AND AWE - CANNA LILIES

Hi Everyone!

Today I'm showing your one of The Crafters Workshop new 2017 Summer Stencils called Canna Lilies designed by Carmen Medlin. It is one of my favorites this summer.

My favorite substrate to use is Yupo. It's a nice smooth surface and it also has its challenges too.  First I added the stencil to the Yupo with acrylic paints.

 

 

 

 

I continued to add the stencil to the Yupo. I used both the 12x12 and 6x6 size. I also flipped the stencil and used the other size so the flowers are going in different directions.

 

 

 

Here is a close up of all the layers.

 

 

I dropped a stamp on it which left a black mark. With the Spring time colors it was hard to cover up so I decided to had a few words with black archival inks.

Crystal Clear TCW Gel Medium Technique

Surprise, it's not Friday but I thought I would repost this technique here if you didn't see it on my blog post for The Crafters Workshop. 

 

I'm not a fan of shiny glossy mediums but I do love to use TCW Gel Medium Gloss using this technique. It's so much fun! It can be used on anything, cards, scrapbook pages, art journals, ATCs, etc.

 

First, I added fluorescent acrylic paints through the stencil on Yupo. When it dried, I put the stencil back on the Yupo and added Gel Medium Gloss through the stencil.

 

 

When it dried just like magic is turned crystal clear so you can now see the colors again. Pretty cool, right?

 

 

I used a brayer to add more acrylic paints, water and India inks to the Yupo.  I let some of the ink and paints dry in puddles.

 

 

Tip: Yupo is plastic so paints and inks move around a lot with a brayer. If you like a portion of your painting and don't want to change it, wait for it to dry before adding more. I will tell you waiting for it to dry also has its problems, but the more you work with Yupo the less frustrating it becomes.

 

Once it dried I scribbled on it and it was done.

YUPO + BLACK GESSO = HAPPINESS

This piece of Yupo originally was another painting.

When I'm not happy with a painting, I put it to the side and eventually I finish it or BLACK gesso to the rescue.

 

TCW's Black Gesso is matte opaque so it's a perfect medium to use to start fresh.  Also, remember when you cover over a painting it gives you extra texture from the original painting which I love.

 

I used TCW's Mini Cactus and Live Laugh Love stencils.

JEALOUSY - A Painting on Yupo

Hi. I as in my art room this weekend and loving every minute. My back is finally starting to heal and I can play a lot longer.

Today I took a painting on Yupo that didn't work out and painted over it with black Gesso by The Crafter's Workshop. Slowly started adding paint with a brayer. Green seemed to be the dominant color and the word Jealousy came to me as the title.

 

You can see that I used the Daisy Chain stencil on the left hand side. Just the center of the stencil. I love using just a portion of a stencil in my art. Its very rare I use the whole stencil.

What would you put in your pond?

Koi.

They come in such lovely colors but very expensive.

So I put painted my pond and chose the colors of my Koi.

THINK SUMMER! JOYFUL SUNFLOWER

Hi Everyone!

Long time no post!

 

I thought I would share with you how I created this Sunflower painting on Yupo.  This stencil is called Joyful Sunflower from The Crafter's workshop. I used Liquitex High Flow Acrylics and Liquitex Fluorescent Soft Body Acrylic paint.  All the stencil used are from The Crafter's Workshop.



When I start a new painting I really don't know where it's going.

I don't have a plan. I just paint and see what happens. So I may not remember some of the steps I took even with the pictures.

 

First I started using gray on the background and wiping some of it away.

 

 

Then I decided to add some blue and white and scratch in some swirly circles and it looks like a used a alpha stencil too.

 

 

I don't know what I was trying to do here LOL!

 

I didn't like it so white paint always saves the day!

 

Covering the white paint I used this stencil to add more texture to the background.

Plus a little silver too.

 

Here I used a Fineline bottle with a standard tip to add more swirls plus added this stamp with archival inks.

 

As you can tell, it doesn't look like sunflowers.

 

Here are the inks and paints I used for this painting.

 

I love using a brayer on Yupo.

Here I added some greens and blues.

 

Remember the step when I used the standard tip of the FineLine paint bottle (buy it empty and fill it) and made these swirls? Well, this is what it looks like up close. Cool, right?

 

I decided to use the brayer on top and it pulled some of the paint off. I love when that happens.

 

Then I started adding the sunflowers.

I used both the 6x6 and 12x12 sizes.

 

Love the fluorescent colors!

 

Here it is finished before I pulled off the tape.

 

 

I thought you would like to see some of the texture and color.

Now to find a frame!

 

 

 

I hope you enjoyed my weird process.

Because I never know where my paintings are going, this one too about 7 hours to complete. I do take breaks to let parts of it dry before I add more. This is 11x14. I would love to do one much larger.

Play time experiments

I love the colors of Ranger's Alcohol Inks and wanted to see if I can paint with them.

This is a piece of 5x7 Yupo.

With a brayer I added black India Ink

 

I placed the Trivet Remnant on the Yupo and took a baby wipe and took off the ink to see the stencil design.

Using a brush, I tried to paint on the alcohol inks but that didn't work. It dries fast to I can't get it to look nice. So I just dripped the inks on and let them dry.

It looks really cool. You can't tell from these pictures but the alcohol inks are glossy when dry. I'm not a glossy person so I'm not sure I like it. The India Inks aren't glossy but I do like using them with the India Inks and high flow acrylics.

As you play with supplies, you find out what you like and don't like. I do love using Yupo so there will be more experiments.
