Dreaming of Bright Sunny Days

It's been sunny but not warm enough for me.
I have another page from my small Moleskine journal.
This is my collage journal and I'm loving the size (ATC size).
The background is a mix of paint, ink, stencils, and stamps.
The words and main image is from my box of scraps.

A Frozen Birthday!

Someone at work asked me to make a special birthday card for her granddaugther's fifth birthday. Her granddaughter loves Disney's new movie Frozen hence the theme for her party. I was very excited because the movie is so cute. I love it.

I love to fussy cut and make lots of layers and include the child's face in the card. Someone asked me if I sell these types of cards. My answer is no.  With all the time involved in making these types of cards, no one would be able to afford them.  I just love creating them and it's fun.  Making them to sell is pressure that I don't want and it wouldn't be fun anymore.  This was a gift.

This card took me from start to finish 18 hours.  I enjoyed every minute!

This card is 5.25 x 5.25 on heavy matt board with an easel attached to the back. I always believe the front of any card is the best part why add the extra paper.  The background was created with stamps, acrylic paints, and glitter.  Each layed piece was printed numerous times so that I can add layers.

Looking below you can see the layers and glitter.

Her face was not digitally put into the picture. I resized her face and fussy cut the hair. I added a little crystal at the end of her braid.

Here is another shot of the other side showing the layers for the mountains.  If you notice even the little snowy patches have layers.  Thank goodness for eye glasses!!!

Another shot of the mountains.

This is the back. I used a stencil from The Crafters Workshop for the back with distress inks and re-inkers.  I added the movie title on the back for future reference.

The child's mom displays all the cards I have made for her children. They are not put away in a box or thrown away. It's nice to know someone appreciates a handmade gift. I had a blast making it. I hope you enjoyed all the pictures.

Flowers for Your Birthday

Here is a tag I made for my niece's birthday.
I just added a pocket in the back so hold her gift.
Spray inks, heavy gesso, paper scraps.
The flower is made of wire and deli paper.
I'm going to make many more.
I learned how to create the flower from online workshop from Balzer Designs called Getting Started with Deli Paper.
Its a fun class and Julie  has me hooked on deli paper.
Do you know what the middle of the flower is made from?

When you open up a tube of Liquitex Acrylic paint there is dry glue around the opening. I now keep them to add to projects. My god-daughter used them in a painting and loved the idea.
The leaves and stem are made from paper towels. I added gel medium to the leaves so they become stiffer and easy to mold.

Squares and Hearts

I'm trying to sort through all my pictures and it's a long process.
While sorting I found a picture of four small journal pages that I have never posted.
This journal is a small Strathmore journal. I take the paper out of the binding.
I use this small journal to just doodle using stencils.
I use it like a coloring book. Very relaxing.
These pages were made with drafting stencils and The Crafter's Workshop stencil called Mix and Match Hearts.

Scrapbook Page: Urban Landscape

I haven't been scrapbooking for long. I started a long time ago but then stopped. It just seemed like there are too many rules. BUT with the magic of stencils and other mediums that are archival safe I found that I love to work on mixed media pages.

Here is a page a I created using The Crafter's Workshop stencils: TCW454 Specimen and TCW342 Urban Landscape.

My daughter lives in Chicago so I find I have many pictures that I can play with for scrapbook pages. I'm going to resize many of them and either print them myself  or have them printed in smaller sizes. Now to pick up a few embellishments here and there. Hmmm I hear my credit card running away!

Art Journal: Confidence

I'm very excited to say tax season is over! YEAH!
Well, at least part one. The next big due date is October 15th.
That one is really the worse one.
I did create here and there over the week.
Mostly because I need to get rid of my stress and art has a way of doing that for me.
Here is a journal page I created using The Crafter's Workshop stencil, #448 Four Faces, designed by Julie Fei-Fan Balzer. The page already had a background of paint and I added one of the faces with modeling paste. I let it dry a bit then sprayed it with water and added drops of ink. The inks spreads though out the paste.
I'm going to join in Julie's Art Journal Every Day with this page.
You should click on the link above and see everyone's fabulous pages.

Spring Time brought to you by Stencil Aliens

Hi Everyone!  Tax season is almost over.
Thought I would post something quick before I head into work.
I think I used almost ever stencil I had for the background.
My stencil aliens kept pushing me to use more and more.
I think they must have taken over.
I lost all track of time.
There were stencils on the floor
on my table
on my book shelves
under my table (they are very slippery on a rug)
the list can go on and on.
In honor of Spring and little bit of warmer weather, here is Spring Time.
12x12 cradled wood
Tons of acrylic paints
Butterfly images
Head on over to The Crafter's Workshop to see them all!
I know I'm not the only one with stencil aliens.
Who else out there has them?
Thanks so much for stopping by!
Happy Spring

Mirror, Mirrow on the Wall

Head on over to The Crafters Workshop
and see what this is!
Thanks so much for stopping by!
I'm currenly up to my neck in tax returns.
Hoping to post something before April 15th.
My stencil aliens are being very unruly and want to play.
If not I will be the one chained to my desk until then!

Art Journal Caravan 2014

This year I decided to join Art Journal Caravan. I'm interested in learning about digital journaling and thought this would be a good place to start. I've learned lots but still have not completed a digital page. The one good thing about AJC is that it doesn't have to be digital. Itinerary #1 was all about nature so I completed this page.

The flower was created using Cornflower stencil from The Crafters Workshop. I love using stencils because you can make it your own.

Art Journal Page: Cafe Latte

The wonderful thing about stencils is that you can create so many different backgrounds whether it's a journal page, card, canvas or layout. This page I used the following stencils:

All these stencils are new from The Crafters Workshop.
You can see them all HERE and the blog HERE.
With many different ink pads in shades of green I created the background.
Then using the Café Latte stencil I traced it on some scrap paper to create the tea cups.
